Overreacting or Underreacting
A productive way to examine our challenges is by considering whether we may be overreacting or underreacting in certain situations or with specific people. By taking time to reflect on these responses, we can clarify the core issues and focus our work together where it will be most effective. This perspective is just one of many tools we can use to gain insight into what’s really going on.
Upgrading Your Response to Troubling Behavior
There are various methods to address moments when you overreact, underreact, or simply feel unsure about what to do or say. The aim is to cultivate mental agility and creativity, empowering you to respond to life's challenges more effectively.
Long-Term Symptoms
I use an integrative blend of approaches to help individuals experiencing long-term symptoms—such as depression, persistent low energy, and anxiety. By using modern techniques, I extend the benefits of therapy to those with chronic issues. Current research supports these blended approaches by showing improvements in emotional resilience and overall well-being.
Working with Disruptive People
Whether you’re dealing with challenging people at home, work, or elsewhere, it’s crucial to decode their behavior. I help you develop a clear plan that not only protects your emotional well-being but also guides you forward. Often, this process involves crafting a strategy for recovering from the effects of these relationships.
I also work with a wide variety of challenges—including issues related to aging, trauma, grief, and addiction.
These areas require tailored support, and I bring specialized knowledge to each, ensuring that the unique complexities of these experiences are met with compassionate, effective strategies.
Repeating Conflict or Loss of Intimacy
Recurring conflicts or a diminishing sense of closeness often stem from deep-rooted patterns. My work—involving methods such as EMDR, attachment work, and other therapeutic approaches—aims to transform these patterns by changing the way we instinctively respond to emotional triggers.
- Attachment Work in Couples Therapy: This approach helps partners understand their core emotional needs, paving the way for a more secure and fulfilling connection.
- EMDR/Desensitization: Techniques like EMDR can reduce emotional reactivity by resolving emotional triggers, creating a calmer dynamic within couples and families.
- CBT and Skill Training: Cognitive-behavioral therapy paired with skills training provides practical tools for managing conflict and enhancing communication.
- Skills Development: Conflicts often signal a need for specific interpersonal skills. By focusing on these skills, we not only address surface issues but also reveal underlying unmet needs as well as strengths that can be mobilized.
Out-of-Balance Relationships
Sometimes you come to realize that you’re the only one sincerely working on the relationship. An out-of-balance relationship arises when one partner is significantly less able—or willing—to invest the necessary effort. This imbalance may be due to identifiable issues, such as struggles with substance use or certain personality patterns that hinder the ability to maintain typical relational dynamics. Over time, red flags—such as feeling less complete, growing isolated from others, or even doubting your own perceptions—can emerge. In our work together, we explore these dynamics so you can regain balance and reclaim your sense of self.
Working with Adolescents
I offer a practical behavior program designed to shift your child’s attitude while empowering you as a parent. Drawing on my experiences as both a counselor and a clinical coordinator in residential settings for emotionally troubled adolescents, I’ve developed a program that centers on negotiation. This method provides your child with a legitimate sense of control while also setting up incentives for staying engaged and working toward meaningful goals. While behavior modification is sometimes seen as applicable only to children with severe challenges or even with animals, my approach demonstrates that these principles can be sophisticatedly applied to perfectly normal adolescents—as well as those facing emotional difficulties.
Developmental Disability Support
I have extensive experience in case management and family training for those supporting a member with a developmental disability.
- I help families navigate common challenges—for example, transitioning to additional services like independent living training as needs evolve.
- I also guide family members in understanding and effectively working with complex support systems, ensuring that everyone involved can access the necessary services and resources.

I integrate various approaches that work together to create lasting change. Below are some key methods:
Emotional Trigger Resolution
With methods such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) we can resolve emotional triggers that cause overreaction or underreaction, promoting a more balanced response in everyday situations.
Somatics
This body–mind approach works at a physical level to manage stress and emotional reactions. By addressing how tension manifests in the body, somatic techniques enhance overall resilience and well-being.
Attachment Work or Emotion-Focused Therapy
One of the most effective ways to improve relationship dynamics is through attachment-based methods. By disrupting negative feedback loops that heighten conflict and misunderstanding, we can create healthier, more secure bonds.
Deep Relaxation and Hypnosis
This modern technique helps create the mental state necessary for advanced stress management. Deep relaxation and hypnosis can aid in reducing emotional triggers and promoting a sense of calm.
CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy)
Much of what I incorporate involves “bottom-up” approaches—targeting physical shifts to reduce stress. In contrast, CBT is a “top-down” approach that provides insight and empowers you to choose more adaptive responses. By working with your thought patterns, CBT creates space for creative and effective solutions to both personal and professional challenges.
I offer advanced methods designed to build stress resistance that go beyond traditional stress management and mindfulness training.
Upgrading Your Response to Challenges
You can learn techniques like “de-triggering,” which help eliminate automatic emotional responses. This method opens the door to more creative and powerful ways of facing the challenges that arise in everyday life.
Working with Difficult People and Organizational Staff
Difficult interpersonal dynamics can drain productivity and affect morale. In my consulting work, I assess these challenges through a systems perspective—integrating psychological insights and best practices from employee assistance programs. This framework helps determine effective measures ranging from mediation to structured disciplinary actions—always aligned with company policies. As a nationally certified Employee Assistance Professional, I bring extensive experience in guiding both managers and employees toward improved workplace dynamics.
Coaching and Skills Training
I provide coaching and skills training for individuals who don’t need psychotherapy but want to build practical self-care techniques. These methods are widely embraced to help manage anxiety, navigate work pressures, or even reduce lingering symptoms—such as those from long-haul Covid or chronic pain.
